1. Controversies Over the Image of God in Genesis 1

【Gen 1:26-27】 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule …… over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Bible said that God created man in his image. However, in Genesis 1, there are no more specific explanation about the image of God. So there are many different kinds of interpretation in this world. Most well-educated biblical scholars say that the image of God means the nature or character of God.

One day, however, some people began to interpret the Bible from a childish point of view. They are those who make weird claims based on very cute imagination. They say, God created human being as male and female because of His image of male God and female God.

Their argument is very simple and futile so that we do not feel any trouble. But now the situation is serious enough that their cannot be ignored or just passed by. Because I was shocked on the news that there were hundreds of thousands of people who say their arguments make sense.

How could this happen? They claim that there are two biblical grounds. First one is that God has called Himself with the plural pronoun ‘us’, and second one is that the Hebrew word “Elohim”, which is translated into ‘God’, is the plural noun.

It takes a lot of discussion to correct their wrong claims. Let me first talk about the conclusion before I give you a detailed explanation. Brothers and sisters! There is only one God, and no female God exists. There is another reason why God said “us”. The word ‘Elohim’ is plural in grammar, but it does not mean that God is plural

Before we get into the concrete explanation, let’s start with the simplest tenets of faith. For instance Trinity. In order to follow their argument, we must deny the Trinity. We need to add one more personality, God the Mother. We must be baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son, of the Holy Spirit and of the Mother. Have you been baptized in the name of the Mother?

Their argument is absurd, but the general Protestant church does not offer a proper criticism of the doctrine of the female God. If you look at the writings of heresy experts who criticize the doctrine of the female God, their logic is just the opposite argument for opposition. Their crude logic rather reinforces the false beliefs of those who are absorbed in the doctrine of the female God.
